Hawaiian pizza was invented in Canada!
In 1962, Greek immigrant Sotirios “Sam” Panopoulos invented Hawaiian pizza at the Satellite Restaurant in Chatham, Ontario.
Pizza Pops – invented in Canada!
This made-in-Manitoba creation is similar to a panzerotti. In 1964, Paul Faraci invented the Pizza Pop in Winnipeg, reportedly inspired by a disappointing panzerotti he tried at a local restaurant.
Canadians eat a lot of pizza!
81% of Canadians eat pizza at least once a month, and the average Canadian eats over 16 pounds of pizza a year.
Ever had a Sushi pizza?
Sushi pizza is a pizza imitation with sushi ingredients. It consists of a fried rice patty topped with a sauce, often sriracha, and vegetables and fish or other seafood. This mimics the style of pizza – crust, sauce and toppings – with completely different ingredients.
