BC wildfire officials have given an update on the Cameron Bluffs wildfire situation.
They expect Highway 4 near Port Alberni to remain closed for at least another week. The detour route will remain open, with essential travel possible along logging roads between Port Alberni and Youbou. While the fire is no longer out of control and is considered “being held”, much work will be needed to get the road safe and reopened to traffic. Trees and rocks continue to fall from the steep slope adjacent to the highway, and slope stability is being assessed by crews this week.
