B.C.’s next provincial general election is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, 2024.
Polls will be open from 8am to 8pm.
Advance voting will take place October 10-13, and October 15-16.
For information on voting by mail, see elections.bc.ca/2024-provincial-election/ways-to-vote/vote-by-mail/
Something very important: You might be in a different electoral district than previous elections.
With a rise in population, six new ridings were established recently in the province, bringing the number of districts (and seats) from 87 to 93. The move has resulted in many changes – some big, some small – to district boundaries. You can double-check your electoral district with the Elections BC address search. They have plenty of maps, including a printable electoral district wall map if your bedroom decor needs some livening up.
To register to vote in British Columbia, you must be:
- a Canadian citizen,
- 18 or older,
- a B.C. resident for the past six months, and
- not disqualified from voting.
A list of all candidates who have registered with Elections BC so far can be found at this link, which will be updated as candidates officially register by September 28th at 1pm. Alternatively, you can look in any direction this month and probably see a few dozen signs to let you know 🙂
Also, if you’d like to click around Wikipedia to see various ridings, their changes and results over the years, and more, a good starting point is probably en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_British_Columbia_provincial_electoral_districts
